Who are we ?

The Tunisian Zero Waste Collective is a group of citizens, public personalities, experts, and associations that campaign for the preservation of the environment and the improvement of the quality of life, through the promotion of the Zero Waste concept in Tunisia.

The Tunisian Zero Waste Collective defends 5R, which is a recommendation of ecological lifestyle

Refuse single-use products and favor zero-waste purchases.

Reduce the consumption of goods.

Reuse and repair anything that can be reused.

Compost all organic wastes.

Recycle anything that cannot be reused.

This list is ordered, so recycling is not the first ecological reflex to adopt, but the last solution to consider after having thought about refusing the object, and after having considered its reuse.

The Tunisian Zero Waste Collective is guided by the values of independence, transparency, collective action and for the common good, non-violence and perseverance. It refrains from any partisan, financial, religious, trade union or corporatist commitment. It carries out its activities by means of actions throughout the territory of the Tunisian Republic, before all jurisdictions, administrations and local, regional, national, or international organizations.

Our objectives

Tunisian Zero Waste Collective defends the interests of citizens, consumers and users in the fields of the environment, waste management and living environment. Its approach advocates efficiency in the use of our resources, the reduction of waste and waste through eco-design, responsible consumption, reuse and recovery of materials. The creation of the collective is a real opportunity to make the most of all the innovative experiments that have helped to relieve the pressure on our ecosystems, minimize our waste and create tremendous social and economic dynamics, both national and local. Tunisian Zero Waste Collective has set itself the following objectives :

The Zero Waste movement aims to minimize the amount of waste produced by taking action :
  • Individually, by changing habits: favouring bulk, packaging and reusable or biodegradable bags, avoiding waste, reducing and recovering waste.
  • Collectively, by modifying production and waste recovery processes, reducing landfill storage and eliminating the use of incineration, and thus minimizing the production of waste and toxic substances that are hazardous to health and the environment, the design and manufacture by industry of products that are fully biodegradable, reusable, recyclable and repairable.
We aim to encourage public authorities and individuals to :
  • Create a well-structured waste collection system in order to :
    • Optimize the quantity of organic waste (green waste).
    • Optimize the quantity of recyclable materials (plastic, glass, paper, metals).
  • Encourage the creation of waste recovery projects through composting, recycling, energy and biofuel production, etc. Thus encourage the creation of sustainable local jobs within the framework of a circular economy.
Particular attention will be paid to improving regulations, especially legal texts relating to the environment and waste.

Our events

National Awareness Campaign

In order to stop the continued degradation of public space, which is not only an environmental disaster, but also affects vital sectors such as health, agriculture, fishing and tourism, the Tunisian Zero Waste Collective is launching a national campaign entitled : « Tunisia Without Waste » . This awareness campaign aims to promote the values of Zero Waste and an integrated and sustainable approach to waste management in Tunisia. It will start on Thursday, March 18, 2021, on the occasion of the :

Global Recycling Day

On the socio-economic level, waste management will open the door to new outlets, and will allow the creation of numerous waste sorting and recovery projects through composting, recycling, green energy and biofuel production, etc. It will encourage the creation of sustainable local jobs, within the framework of a circular, regional and national economy. It will also allow the enhancement of Tunisian heritage and the creation of eco-responsible activities, as part of the development of ecological and cultural tourism, in all regions of the country, given its natural and archaeological wealth. On the environmental level, the objective of this national campaign is to ensure responsible behavior towards the environment, from citizens, administrations and public and private companies, and especially industries.

Digital Cleaning Campaign

From March 18 to April 1, 2021 included, the Tunisian Zero Waste Collective is organizing, in partnership with the Startup 2BK Innovation, a national cleaning campaign throughout Tunisia, in which all citizens can participate, in public spaces and through the digital application Clean 8. This campaign consists of cleaning a public place containing waste, and taking three photos :

  • a photo before cleaning,
  • a photo after cleaning and,
  • a photo showing the fate of the collected waste.
The three photos must be sent, during the period indicated, through the digital application Clean 8, mentioning the title: #Tunisie_sans_dechet or #تونس_بلاش_نفايات
